Mark Ronson has released a music video for his first single of his new album Record Collection, called ‘Bang Bang Bang’ with his band The Business INTL. The song also includes Q-Tip and MNDR.
Bang Bang Bang as well as the other singles I’ve heard off of Record Collection feature pop-friendly, up tempo beats complemented with heavy synths. In his interview with The Creators Project, Ronson states his inspiration was the old 1986, 2D, Legend of Zelda video game, which for me, as a child who grew up with Zelda, I appreciate.
At first, I was disappointed to hear these poppy, synth-y beats coming from Mark that every seems to be jumping on these days, especially since I LOVED his big band beats of the 1960’s from his last album Version.
However, if ‘Bang Bang Bang’ is any sign of Record Collection then I think we’re in for a great album. The term ‘musical genius’ gets thrown around a lot, but I genuinely believe that Mark Ronson IS a musical genius, a fantastic musician and brilliant producer. He understands aspects of musical culture that are popular in contemporary times while blending it with sounds we’ve either never heard of, have completely forgotten about.
So here is to another great musical product courtesy of Mark Ronson, it’s going to be a great summer.
